Unique Mosaic Designs Exhibited In 2016

Daniel Barenboim once said that every great work of art has two faces, one towards its own time and one towards the future, towards eternity. By reading this whilst 2016 slowly fades away, I felt the need to take a last look at the artistic fusion that fell under the global mosaic art umbrella this year. The first apparent evidence of a mosaic, as result of the creative nature of man, can be traced back to prehistoric ages in the 3rd millennium BC in Mesopotamia. The art originally arose as a traditional and also practical decorative method and with the passage of time subsequently evolved into a detailed form of contemporary expression. The art of mosaics equally balances the historical nature of the practice and simultaneously incorporates a more futuristic character that has developed considerably throughout the past decade. This unique equilibrium of past and future exemplifies the sophistication of art as a medium of expression.
