Sep 29, 2015
Although many people think glass tiles can be used to create beautiful surfaces such as shower walls in the bathroom and backsplash areas in the kitchen, that is only the start of what you can do with this beautifully elegant tile. There are also many other areas of the home which can benefit from a glass tile surface.
Floors
Recycled Glass tile can make an absolutely spectacular floor, especially in rooms that get a lot of light. For instance, if your bathroom has a skylight installed, the light will make a glass tile floor simply sparkle. Recycled Glass tile is a non-absorbent material, which means it will not soak up water, making it especially resistant to the moisture that is often present on bathroom floors. When selecting glass tile as a flooring surface, it is best to select one that has a slip-resistant finish, to make the floor safer to walk on, especially when it's wet.
Pool Areas?
Another area where recycled glass tiles are a natural is in the swimming pool. While some people splurge on tiling the entire interior of the pool with vitreous glass tiles, you can get an attractive effect much less expensively by simply adding an attractive border of recycled glass tile around the top portion of the pool. If you have any water features installed as part of your swimming pool, such as a small waterfall, consider adding glass to the front surface of the waterfall area. The effect of the water falling over glass tiles is simply spectacular. You can also use recycled glass tiles effectively for the steps leading up to a hot tub or spa, or as part of a fountain, reflecting pond, or other types of water features around your home. It is important to remember that adhesives that are designed for exterior use should always be used when installing recycled glass tile outdoors.
Outdoor Kitchens and Entertainment Areas
If you have a patio area that includes an outdoor kitchen or grill area, recycled glass tile can be used very effectively in these areas as well. Glass is completely waterproof as well as easy to clean, so using an economical glass tile for surfaces such as a countertop area is a good choice. With so many different colors from which to choose, you can add a lot of beauty and sparkle to an outdoor kitchen area, making it truly a showplace. You can select colors that match the overall decor of your outdoor area, or have some fun with color and select exciting contrasting color combinations or the team colors of your favorite sports team. Since outdoor entertainment areas are designed for fun, you can get a little more creative with this area of your home in regards to color and design.
Wall Murals?
In addition to simply using recycled glass tile as a wall surface, you can create a truly one-of-a-kind wall mural, using different colors of glass tiles. This can be quite a creative project, so when planning a glass tile wall mural, it is usually best to plan your design out on paper first.
